What's On in Aquitaine and the Basque country

Sailing events – La Rochelle hosts the Grand Pavois boat show every autumn which attracts 100,000 visitors and 750 boats.

Surf championships – Biarritz & Anglet are a firm fixture on the surfing agenda. The International Surf Film Festival is held in Anglet every July, while Biarritz is currently gearing up to host the 2019 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship (May 26 – June 2 2019).

Fêtes de Bayonne – Every summer, the town pulls out all the stops for a five-day feria to celebrate its history, culture and cuisine. Traditional costumes, dancing, parades and fireworks are de rigueur and merriment is guaranteed.

Music – Les Francofolies takes place in July in La Rochelle (10-14 July 2019), a summer showcase of top names in French popular music.

Angoulême Vintage Car Race – Every September Angoulême hosts a classic car parade. Sit on the ramparts for a premium view of the show taking place below.

Fireworks – Wherever you are in France, summertime means fireworks. Towns and villages all over the country hold firework displays on 14th July for Bastille Day, and/or 15th August for the holy day of the Assumption. Grab yourself a spot on the beach or by the river and settle in to enjoy an evening packed with ambiance.
