Pyrénées ou Méditerranée - Charming rental between sea and mountain in Occitanie region

Located just twenty minutes from Spain, this peaceful 13th-century Catalan farmhouse lies in the heart of a 100-hectare pine forest, with the landmark mountain Le Canigou in the background. This exceptional property has just been fully renovated. The charm of the original old stone building has been retained and carefully combined with the luxury of modern style. It is surrounded by unspoiled nature and is in easy reach of Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast.

Inside, there are nine sunny and spacious bedrooms decorated in subtle yet sophisticated tones, all of which overlook the garden. All the bedrooms have a king-size bed and their own unique and inviting style. Traditional natural materials such as stone, limestone and wood are the centerpiece of the décor throughout, enhanced by warm colours to create a feeling of effortless rural chic. The design celebrates the Catalan spirit and the house’s original character and the hues used in the luxurious living space were inspired by the region’s Catalan flag. Every detail has been carefully thought out to produce a beautiful blend of antique pieces with more contemporary themes.
All the bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, and two of them also have a bathtub. Just like the bedrooms, each bathroom has its own style; some other the bathrooms have a simple and pure style while others are more colourful.

The closed grounds of this luxury rental villa are fantastic: simply sit back and revel in the peace and quiet of this haven of nature set in 100-hectares of forest. A large swimming pool is perfect for whiling away the hours, or make use of the petanque court or table tennis table for a friendly tournament with your fellow guests. The garden also has a lovely summer kitchen.

This luxury property rental in the south west of France is designed for relaxing in style both inside and out.

A concierge is on hand to help you explore everything this fabulous region has to offer, be it getting out into nature, heading to the sea or crossing the border for a day out in Spain.

We recommend the property for up to four families or nine couples.

Luxury villa rental near the Pyrenees, things to see and do nearby:

Some lovely villages to visit in Occitanie

Eus, located between the Conflent valley and Mount Canigou is one of the sunniest villages in France. It was originally a fortified town and is dominated by the imposing 18th-century St Vincent’s church which stands on the site of the ruined castle. Artists will love this quirky stone village and it makes a great place for a family walk. Take your camera to snap the breathtaking views of the Canigou mountain.

Castelnou is the nearest village to your property, about twenty kilometres south-west of Perpignan. It was awarded the official title of Most Beautiful Villages in France in 1984 and is dubbed “the pearl of Catalonia”. It is built on the sheer cliffside and will take you on a delightful journey back in time. Walk through the alleys, visit the castle and take in the magnificent view of the valley, wander up to the tower, peruse the wares of the local artisans and market stalls, and visit the Church of Sainte-Marie du Mercadal or the Monastir del Camp, a well-preserved ancient monastery. There are some lovely restaurants where you can taste the region’s traditional dishes. Our favourite local specialities include sweet bunyete fritters, the snail-based cargolade, the nougat-like Catalan turron or Byrrh, a wine-based aperitif flavoured with quiquina.

Villefranche-de-Conflent is another of the most beautiful villages in France - there is a picturesque village at every turn here! The walls of this medieval city were built by the illustrious military architect Vauban who now has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites to his name. Must-sees include the Roman St Jacques’ church, Fort Liberia, the ramparts, the small and large Canalettes caves, the Costa Bastera and a guided tour of the village.

Must-see cities to visit

Thuir, less than 10 kilometres away, is the nearest town and has all amenities. Thuir is famous throughout France as the home of the sweet wine Byrrh, which was one of the biggest French companies of the twentieth century. So much so that Thuir is known as "the City of Byrrh".

Narbonne is an hour and a half’s drive from your property and a vibrant crossroads in the South of France. It boasts an endless sandy beach, unspoiled nature, a thriving wine culture, the Canal de la Robin, year-round entertainment and 2,500 years of history and heritage. There’s plenty to see and do here, but no day trip would be complete without taking in the Via Domitia, the Horreum Roman warehouse, the archbishops' palace-museum, the unfinished Cathedral and the Abbey of Fontfroide.

Perpignan lies on the horticultural plain of Roussillon, at the foot of the Pyrenees and at the top of the Canigou mountain. It is an elegant Mediterranean city with narrow streets lined with red brick houses and little squares. A perfect spot for scenic snaps!

Argelès-sur-Mer is the largest seaside resort on the French Catalan coast. Set between the sea and the mountains, it offers a wealth of outdoor activities and has a strong historical heritage which can be seen in the sites and monuments around the city. It will delight art and history enthusiasts and fans of old stone buildings.

Hiking in Spain

Cross the border and head into Spain’s Paratge Natural d'Interès Nacional de l'Albera plenty of great hikes. It is a beautiful natural park with lush forest, rivers and animals. You might even spot some turtles or bats.
