Château Campagne Chic – Charming property with a private pool for rent in France

Château Campagne Chic owes its name to its history, location and style.

The estate itself dates back to the 15th century and the chateau was built in the 17th century. The property is located in the Sarthe countryside of north-west France, home to the river of the same name, historic towns, fields and forests. It is a breath of fresh air within easy reach of the capital, making it popular among locals, Parisians and tourists alike. And what better way to experience this slow-paced rural corner of France than staying in style at a castle? Château Campagne Chic offers subtle sophistication at its finest. Its historical character has been forged over the centuries to make it the pleasant and welcoming family home that it is today.

The chateau enjoys an array of shared areas for relaxing, dining and socialising. The entrance hall leads straight to the spacious 60m² kitchen, which truly is the hub of the home where a large La Cornue range cooker takes pride of place and two large tables provide plenty of space for preparing and sharing meals throughout the day. The style is the effortless high-end rural chic that French homes do so well.

Alternatively, meals can be taken in the dining room where original mouldings and a wooden floor are offset by modern furniture and a table to seat ten to twelve guests, making it perfect for more sophisticated dinners.

There are two lounge areas with contrasting styles. The reading room has a soft, classical atmosphere with neutral colours livened up by a swathe of more vibrant walls that reflect the surrounding countryside.
The second living room with its comfy red couches has a more modern feel while enjoying the same bright and spacious layout as the other rooms. This is the perfect place for younger guests to hang out and watch TV.

Further along the hallway is a billiards room, with its gentrified hunting lodge style and deer’s head on the wall that lends itself to the nature of the chateau and its forest surrounds. There is one double bedroom on the ground floor featuring an alcove bed that is typical of the chateau’s identity. This bedroom has its own bathroom, albeit not en-suite.

Two majestic wooden staircases lead upstairs to a further nine bedrooms – eight on the first floor and one on the second floor.

Many of the bedrooms have traditional wood and plasterwork features and some are offset by a splash of bright and vibrant wall coverings. Six of the nine bedrooms have a small en-suite bathroom, simple but in excellent condition, while three other bedrooms share a large, sunny bathroom which has a double vanity unit, a bathtub, shower and toilet.

Moving outdoors, this beautiful rental chateau has all the chic of an old estate surrounded by forests and all the comfort of a family holiday home with modern facilities and a swimming pool. There is plenty of space for children to run around and burn off their energy playing hide and seek or ball games while adults will enjoy relaxing in stylish surroundings or roaming the sprawling grounds. As there are ponds on the estate, young children must be supervised.

There is plenty to do on site and in the surrounding area and Château Campagne Chic will appeal to nature lovers and outdoor types. However, the property is also within easy reach of the historic city of Le Mans, character-packed villages, rivers and castles.

Country house for rent near Paris, things to see and do nearby:

Picturesque tourist sites in the Sarthe

Lude Castle is less than 30 kilometres from the château. It is a majestic castle with immaculate gardens that was built during the mediaeval and Renaissance eras. The elegant sculpted exterior is matched by the grand and gilded interior. Enjoy a visit of the castle and the grounds.

Head off the same difference in another direction to visit the Manoir de la Possonnière, another impressive Renaissance building which was home to the illustrious French poet Pierre de Ronsard. The gardens are signposted with information about the flowers and wildlife found there, and dotted with extracts of the poet’s work.

Next up is medieval Courtanvaux Castle, 40 km from your holiday property, which is set on a 68-hectare estate. Enjoy visiting the gardens or woodland walks or take in the paintings, sculptures and pottery of local artists during the summer arts festival. There is also a playground and plenty of space for children to explore.

Stop off at the lovely little village of Trôo which is famous for its troglodyte cave houses and stacked-terrace houses. Follow the winding paths and stairs and don’t miss the village’s two hallmark attractions: the 45m-deep “talking well” and the stalactites in the Grotte Pétrifiante.

On the other side of the river from Trôo, visit the Roman church of Saint-Jacques des Guérets, with its blue and green wall paintings depicting scenes from the Gospel.

Visit the historical city of Le Mans which bears Art & History Town status. Of course, Le Mans is also home to the iconic motorsport endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans which traditionally takes place in June every year. If you can’t be there for the race, then a visit to view the 150 vehicles on display at the museum is the next best thing. And then you can get behind your own at one of the two karting tracks owned by Alain Prost. It’s not all about cars though: Le Mans is also a historic city with the only Roman walls of its kind in Europe, cobbled streets, timber-fronted buildings and historic monuments including St Julien’s cathedral. L’Epau Abbey is another impressive site to visit and regularly hosts temporary exhibitions and classical music concerts.
