Whisk the whole family away to this sunny corner of France reputed for its pretty villages, good food and relaxed lifestyle!
If you’ve ever dreamed of renting a castle in France, filling it with all your family and friends, and feasting on delicious food and wine for a week, then Chateau Pure Perigord is for you!
This former fortress dates back to the 16th century, with further additions made to it two hundred years later. Its pale stone walls and red tiled roof cut an impressive picture against a backdrop of the Dordogne countryside, while towers, turrets and skilfully crafted woodwork add a hallmark of character and rustic grandeur.
While the building itself is historic, the décor inside is resolutely modern. The original features are the highlight of each room, with soft furnishings and carefully chosen shades used to bring warmth and style throughout. The result is effortlessly simple sophistication.
The castle’s features are delightfully authentic and include a tower, machicolations – openings high up on the walls used to drop stones or boiling water on attackers below – watchtowers and a crenelated parapet. It is a history lesson in itself.
Inside, the woodwork, ceilings, fireplaces and staircases steal the show.
On the ground floor of the main building two adjacent lounges provide a deliciously distinguished place to gather, each with a fireplace and decorated with warm shades and comfortable furnishings.
Wood-panelled doors open onto the dining room, where the decorative timberwork on the ceiling and fireplace surround is elegantly set off by warm blue hues on the walls.
A large, well-equipped kitchen has two ovens and two dishwashers to facilitate catering for large groups and opens onto a terrace with a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding Green Périgord region.
The furniture and decoration are inviting and uncluttered throughout, creating an overall feel of luxury, grandeur and originality.
Chateau Pure Perigord is one of the best places for a large family vacation in our portfolio. There are 11 premium bedrooms in total, located in the three buildings. Each bedroom has its own style, and nine of them have an en-suite bathroom.
Many of the double beds are made up from twinned singles, providing flexibility for accommodating families. The countryside setting ensures a peaceful atmosphere which is perfect for ensuring a good night’s sleep. This wonderful property truly lends itself to total rest and relaxation.
The colour palette and fabrics used throughout have been chosen with care, and it shows. Plant-inspired prints reflect the rurals urrounds, and natural materials such as wicker tables, jute rugs and dried flowers emphasize the replenishing and organic theme.
The outside is equally as impressive. The grounds include 22 hectares of woodland criss-crossed by hiking trails. Enjoy a stroll around the rose garden or relaxing in the inner courtyard or on the terraces – there’s one to the west and another to the north. There is of course a heated swimming pool, and facilities for other outdoor activities too: guests can use the five bicycles available or play table tennis, petanque, or, badminton, while children particularly will head for the trampoline and the swing. There really is something for everyone.
The wooden and wrought iron garden furniture blends in with the surroundings, with the odd dash of bold green adding a touch of colour.
The Périgord Vert, or Green Perigord, region owes its name to its luxuriant countryside that abounds with fields, woods and rivers. It is a hilly region, and of course this castle enjoys an elevated location – cue panoramic views of forests and meadows just waiting to be admired from the terrace.
Dordogne and the Périgord Vert is a nature lover’s dream, with an extensive supply of outdoor activities. Yet it also has a generous offering of history, culture and gastronomic delights.
The larger Perigord region is split into four smaller areas, each identified by a colour (black, white, green and purple) based on their natural environment. The town of Sarlat la Canéda in Black Perigord and Bergerac in Purple Perigord are each about 100 kilometres m from the chateau, while the town of Périgueux, in White Perigord, is a 40 kilometres drive. Read on for our recommendations of what not to miss during your holiday!

The Périgord region is known in France as ‘the land of 1001 castles’. But don’t worry, we’ve whittled down the best and the closest for you to visit during your stay! Bourdeilles and Puyguilhem castles are a great place to start as they are all within 20 kilometres of your own château, heading further east you will find Chateau de la Marthonie.
Within a larger radius of 100 kilometres you’ll come to the castles of Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle; these two are a must if you’re in the Dordogne. They are located on opposite sites of the Dordogne River and played a key role in the Hundred Years’ War that was waged between France and England in the Middle Ages.
Brantôme is a pretty mediaeval town, famous for its Benedictine abbey and its troglodyte caves, and it’s just 15 kilometres down the road from your property. It is built on and around on the water, earning it the name of Green Venice.
These towns are the capitals of the White Périgord and the Purple Périgord regions respectively and are worth a visit. They are lively towns with a strong historic identity. Visit the Saint-Front cathedral in Périgueux or the Ricollets cloister in Bergerac, and check out the market days to stock up on fresh local produce. Depending on the season, the stalls will be stacked with strawberries, foie gras and confits, truffles or the Périgord goats’ cheese cabécou. Sarlat has the most historical sites and oozes charm. It’s a lovely place to visit but plan your timing carefully in high season to avoid the crowds.
If it’s the great outdoors you’re after, then you are in luck. The Dordogne is overflowing with opportunities to exercise and explore, with beautiful landscapes everywhere you look. Choose from hiking or cycling, canoeing or kayaking (in the Gorges d’Auvézère), horse riding, tree climbing, playing a round of golf, or open-water swimming in the Belle, Isle, Dronne or Dordogne Rivers!
