Château Grand Sud is a fabulous property to rent in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France, between the Cevennes natural park and the Mediterranean Sea. With space for 20 guests, luxury facilities and services, and a dream location, it’s perfect for a group getaway!
Château Grand Sud is the extended version of Château Esprit Sud, with an additional building that increases the estate’s guest capacity to twenty.
The original 16th-century building has been fully refurbished and extended to offer four additional beds.
The contemporary extension to the original chateau has its own living spaces that are equally as spacious and stylish as those of Château Esprit Sud.
The two parts of the building are connected inside and out to form a single property where family and friends can gather to socialise, entertain and relax.
The style throughout is a sophisticated blend of modern aesthetics and historic elegance. The property is laid out in an L-shape with each part looking out onto the beautiful courtyard at the rear of the château. The courtyard features an old stone fountain and is the perfect spot for outdoor dining on balmy summer evenings. The view on the other side of the chateau is just as delightful; the front offers sweeping views of the wooded grounds, beautifully lit to create a magical atmosphere. The kitchens are modern and very well equipped, and open out onto both the front and the rear exteriors. Perfect for preparing al fresco lunches made with fresh local produce from the market!
Much of your stay will be spent relaxing in style outside. The heated swimming pool itself is a good size – 18x8 metres – and comes with deckchairs and a pool house. The spacious grounds are filled with lawn and mature trees, with little paths designed for strolling. Beyond the grounds lie the vineyards that belong to the property, which is also a wine estate. Finally, you will have your own private tennis court, ideal for a spot of sport in the cooler hours of the morning or evening.
Inside, the property has a number of bright and beautifully furnished living rooms which are great for chatting and entertaining or curling up for a moment’s peace. Choose from the huge ballroom with a piano, a smaller lounge with a fireplace or the study in the main building; or a spacious light-filled living room and open-plan kitchen and dining area in the extension. Either way, you’ll enjoy the atmosphere of subtle sophistication and welcoming vibes. The original castle building is an elegant blend of old and new, with period furniture and paintings rubbing shoulders with modern pieces. The newer part of the house has a more contemporary style which is nicely offset by the view of the historic courtyard and its fountain.
The property also has a chapel dating back to the first millennium, which can be accessed outside from the courtyard or through the large reception room inside.
The chateau has eleven bedrooms, set out over three separate sleeping quarters.
The first floor of the main building has three comfortable suites that can sleep up to eight people. The suites are spacious, luxuriously styled and come with everything you need. This floor leads out to a lovely covered patio.
A further six bedrooms are located in the tower, to sleep eight. These rooms are less elaborate and mostly have single beds, and share two bathrooms among them. Ideal for children and teenagers to have their own quarters!
The modern extension has two new luxury suites for two couples.
This property can comfortably accommodate up to five families or five couples.

Château Grand Sud is located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region flanked by Provence and the Pyrenees on one side, and the Cevennes hills and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. A scenic location with plenty to see and do!
The surrounding area features a wide variety of landscapes. The region is surrounded by protected natural areas, with an array of classified parks within easy reach: choose from the Cévennes, Alpilles, Camargue, Les Grandes Causses, or the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Parks to begin with! Outdoor activities are high on the menu here, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, cycling, horse riding, rock climbing and canoeing. The region is dotted with beautiful old villages, some of which are classified as "Most Beautiful Villages in France", such as Minerve and Olargues. The natural and historical heritage of the region is simply amazing.
The region’s history is evident in the large cities nearby: Béziers, Montpellier and Nimes are all worth a trip. Béziers is said to be the oldest town in France, founded before Marseille. Ensérune’s archaeological site dates back to the Gallic period, the Roman arena dates back to the 1st century AD, Saint-Nazaire cathedral was built between the 13th and 15th centuries, and the Canal du Midi dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. If you like the idea of taking a journey through time, then you’re in the right place!
Château Grand Sud is not far from the Mediterranean Sea and its beautiful lagoon-like coastline, with the Etang de Thau lake as its gateway. This small inland lake is a beautiful spot in itself where you’ll find everything the region has to offer: unspoilt nature, sun and light, historic buildings, vineyards, and oyster and shellfish farming. Enjoy a serving of Bouzigues oysters and mussels with a glass of Côtes de Thau. This coastal lake is a great place to explore on foot or by bike, canoe, paddleboard, kitesurf or catamaran.
The town of Sète is known as the Venice of the Languedoc and merits a visit to discover its history, architecture, beaches, and lifestyle. Sète harbour was commissioned by King Louis 14th to connect the Canal du Midi to the Mediterranean Sea. Sète has lots of personality: it’s soulful, festive and authentic. The whole town is a delight, from the colourful fishing boats that brighten up the port and the quays of the Canal Royal, to the steep streets and squares of the upper town, taking in Place Léon Blum and its fountains and colourful facades along the way. The theatre in the beautiful Haussmann quarter has an Italian feel to it, while the consular palace is a mixture of art deco and Moorish influence. The influence of this mixed origins can be seen at your holiday property too: Chateau Grand Sud embodies the region’s unique lifestyle.

Translated from French / August 2023 / One week stay : "We had a wonderful stay. Everything was simply perfect. The layout of the chateau totally fitted our family. The manager and the housetaker were very helpful and were customer-orientated four our great pleasure. The chef that you had recommended us was very good and we really apreciated her cuisine and kindness. A tennis tournament was organised. The pool is superb and we could have some barbecues around. The wine of the property is delicious! A mass was given for my husband in the chapel. We thank you for organising this extraodinary stay."
