Enjoy a stay in your very own French chateau! This property was built in the 19th century, in the heart of the Perigord region in south-west France. The Perigord area is split into four different parts, each named after a colour inspired by the natural environment. Although Manoir Couleurs Périgord is located in White Perigord, it is very close to Green Perigord and within easy reach of the sought-after sights of Black and Purple Perigord. But a great location isn’t all this property has to offer; it successfully combines a traditional chateau style with a strong family feel, and is great for groups.
With six en-suite bedrooms that can sleep up to thirteen people, it’s perfect for housing two or three families.
For French architecture, the 19th century marked the close of the Renaissance chapter and a return to simplicity. The style continued to be infused with wealth and detail but began to cater to the practical side of living. And this still holds true of Manoir Couleurs Périgord today. The living spaces are functional yet packed with historic character.
The living room is bright and welcoming and perfect for enjoying a moment’s peace. The red and gold décor is stylishly set off by mirrors and traditional lighting, and the room includes a desk and a piano. The dining room features the same tones, with generous volumes that are ready to embrace the bustle and busyness of family life. Red and gold combine with the brown of the wooden furniture, doors and windows that are typical of its period. In both rooms, a large fireplace takes centre stage. Both the living room and the dining room open onto the garden.
The 40m² kitchen is spacious and well-equipped. The style is older and more rustic, and it has been designed for practicality. As with any home, the kitchen will no doubt be the hub of your stay. Enjoy preparing meals together with the windows flung wide open onto the west-facing terrace outside to let the holiday sunshine in. Simple, rustic and relaxing – the perfect ingredients for a wholesome country holiday.
The bedrooms have been decorated in a neo-classical style : a savvy blend of wall hangings, frescoes, sculptured mouldings, colours, mirrors and lights create a style that is unarguably ornate yet toned down by low-key pieces. A bright and busy wall is offset by a simple, light-coloured bed frame, for example, while a flashy velvet headboard is set against white walls. This theme is continued in the bathrooms. Marble, old-fashioned bathtubs, frescoes, lighting and mirrors, are teamed together to achieve stylish simplicity. The property has three double rooms and three rooms with single beds that can be twinned. Each room has an en-suite bathroom. A seventh bathroom is also available.
Moving outdoors, the façade of this manor house for rent in the Dordogne features carved reliefs. The sprawling grounds are dotted with shady trees that have seen centuries go by, and antique-style statues and vases. It’s a beautiful place to relax and soak up the sunshine and the views. Guests of all ages will love the salt-filtered heated swimming pool, which is sure to be a key feature of your stay. There are also badminton and petanque courts, and a games room with table tennis, table football and other games and activities, making it the perfect playground for the whole family.
And there’s lots more to do beyond the doorstep. The Dordogne is a very popular holiday destination, and for good reason. The Dordogne has everything there is to love about France : culture, history, architecture, nature, food and wine. Each of the four Périgord regions has its own character and colour: read on to find out more below. Finally, there is a village just three kilometres down the road, where you’ll find essential amenities such as a bakery, general store and a restaurant.

Your rental in the Dordogne is in the Périgord Blanc region, or White Perigord.
The Perigord region was divided into four coloured areas in the 1990s in a bid to promote tourism. White Perigord gets its name from the chalk plains that provide the local limestone. It is symbolized by the Saint-Front de Périgueux cathedral. Périgueux is the capital of Périgord Blanc and is a great city to visit with plenty of history. It’s definitely a place to see. Unlike some of the more touristy towns in the region, Périgueux has retained its authentic character. Relics from the Antiquity, medieval and Renaissance periods can still be seen today, such as the Tour de Vésone. Head to the Museum of Art and Archaeology to find out more. In August, the town holds a mediaeval celebration that will whisk you back to the Middle Ages. There are lots of castles that are worth a visit just outside Périgueux – we like Hautefort or Les Bories castles - and there are plenty of religious buildings too, such as Chancelade Abbey. Outdoor activities are high on the agenda in the Périgord Blanc region, which abounds with forests and rivers. Just three kilometres from the property, you can take a trip out on a canoe or a traditional gabarre boat. You can also take the fun and unique Vélorail to the nearby Green Perigord region – a great activity for the whole family.
As its name suggests, Périgord Vert is a greener area and owes its name to the meadows generously watered by the rivers Côle, Dronne, Belle, Isle, and Auvézère. Your family holiday rental is located on the border of the Périgord Vert and very close to the sights there. With so many rivers and waterways, it’s also home to the town of Brantôme, dubbed the Venice of Perigord. Don’t miss the Benedictine Abbey troglodyte site and its Romanesque bell tower. Jumilhac castle is also a must-see. Closer still, Puyguilhem castle is one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in the region. Also nearby are the Caves de Villars and Boschaud Abbey.
Black Perigord, or Périgord Noir, will delight anybody with a penchant for old stones. A little further away from your holiday home, about 80 kilometres, Beynac and Castelnaud castles which sit on either side of the Dordogne River played a key role in the history of the Dordogne and the French 100 years’ war. On the way, break up the journey with a stop at Les Eyzies, known as the prehistoric capital of the world. Finally, make sure you plan a trip to the mediaeval town of Sarlat-La-Caneda. Not only is it famous for having the most historical monuments such as the Saint-Sacerdoce cathedral, the Gisson manor house, the Maison de la Boétie, and the Sainte-Claire abbey, it’s also a bit of a foodie paradise! The Dordogne has more pretty little villages than we can mention, but one we particularly recommend is La Roque-Gageac, which is carved into the rock and has a breathtaking view of the Dordogne and the green oak forests in the distance. In fact, these dense and dark forests is where Black Perigord gets its name from. Take a trip on the river at La Roque-Gageac before continuing on to the delightful gardens of Les Jardins de Marqueyssac.
To finish up, we’ll take you as far as Bergerac, capital of the Périgord Pourpre, or Purple Perigord region. This is where Bergerac wine is produced, and more specifically Monbazillac, a sweet wine that pairs perfectly with some of the locally-produced foie-gras.
If there is one thing that the entire Périgord has in common, it has to be the world-class food and wine. This is the home of France’s famous goose liver pâté, foie gras, but also duck confit, succulent strawberries, walnuts, cep mushrooms, truffles and chestnuts. The foie-gras route is an itinerary that takes in producers and restaurants offering high quality certified products. Another local delicacy is truffles; the restaurant L'Auberge de la Truffe restaurant is close to Manoir Couleurs Périgord and not only has a delicious menu but also runs cookery lessons. A little further afield, 50 kilometres away, the town of Vergt is famous for its strawberries. The Strawberry Festival takes place every two years in May.
