The kitchen also leads out to the terrace, ensuring easy circulation to and from the outdoor dining area.

Upstairs, seven bedrooms are spread over two floors. Each bedroom has its own signature style: some hark back to noble times with their four-poster beds and Toile de Jouy wall coverings, while others are resolutely modern featuring light colours, stylish lines and minimalist furnishings.

A holiday property near the mountains

Head to the summit of the Rhune mountain on foot or by train, which peaks at an altitude of 900 metres. The view from the top is breathtaking. Refuel with a delicious local dish at a typical country inn to enjoy the best of the Basque experience.

Continue on to visit the traditional Basque mountain villages: Ainhoa, Ascain, Espelette, Ixtassou, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle and its lake, the thermal baths and the Arnaga museum in Cambo-les-Bains.

Close to the Spanish Border

The Spanish border is just fifteen kilometres down the road, on the other side of the Pyrenees mountains. The Spanish Basque Country is well worth a visit, especially the beautiful and very popular resort of San Sebastian. We recommend stopping off at the village of Bera on the way back if you have time, then follow the small road to the Col d'Ibardin which offers great panoramic views of the French Basque Country and the entire Atlantic coast on a clear day.

The Basque Country is a byword for culinary excellence. Make sure you try all the local products, in particular Bayonne ham, Ossau Iraty sheep's cheese, Espelette chilli pepper, Basque cake, and black cherries from Ixtasso. And then there’s the traditional dishes: Basque chicken, axoa, pintxos, marmitako... all packed with delicious sun-drenched flavours!
