Horizon Périgord is a fabulous country holiday home to rent in the Dordogne. Its hilltop location in the heart of the Green Périgord countryside ensures open views of the grounds and the distant woodlands coupled with total peace and privacy. This spacious family home is perfect for getting away from it all in nature while enjoying first-rate facilities such as a heated infinity pool and concierge service.
Horizon Périgord has everything you’d expect from a French country manor: old stone walls, tall square-paned openings and an immaculately manicured garden with old trees. This spacious property for 16 guests is fronted by a majestic French courtyard with a fountain and the inside is just as impressive, brimming with style and understated sophistication that will set the scene for a very special stay.
Horizon Périgord is a luxury house with a pool for rent and is ideal for gatherings with extended family or groups of friends.
There are two separate buildings of similar size - the manor house and the Orangerie - each with its own shared areas and bedrooms. Guests can socialize easily while also enjoying the freedom and privacy of their own space. It is ideal for hosting several generations; older family members can spend quality time with their grandchildren with the option of retreating for some quiet time, while teens and older children will love being able to do their own thing.
The house has seven bathrooms and eight bedrooms, all of which have lots of wardrobe space, fans, and a hairdryer.
The shared living areas are big and bright. There are two large 50 m² living rooms with tall French windows that let in plenty of natural light and open out onto the garden. One of the rooms has a wood burner, the other an open fireplace.
These spaces invite guests to settle in and enjoy time together over morning coffee or evening drinks, while a cosy TV room can be used to curl up and watch a film.
There are various choices for mealtimes too. For indoor dining, both buildings have the same facilities, including a kitchen with a table for eight which is convenient for breakfast, eating separately or feeding the children and a main dining room where adults can enjoy dinner around the fireplace.
In the summer time, the Dordogne’s sunny climate lends itself to eating outdoors. The terrace outside the Orangerie provides a dining area and parasols for 16 guests and is a beautiful spot for leisurely lunches and relaxed evening meals overlooking the pool and with views of the countryside for miles around. Further along the terrace is a shaded seating area with white fabric awnings that add a modern touch to the façade.
This property was recently refurbished with great care both inside and out to ensure a comfortable guest experience.
The elegance of the old building is stylishly set off with statement pieces for a modern and inviting décor. White and muted tones throughout create a soothing and spacious feeling that mix well with the original rustic features such as stone walls, exposed timber beams, and mouldings and accentuate the high ceilings. White and hues of blue, grey and beige have also been used for sofas, bed linen, candles and other decorative items. The only room with a bolder décor is the lounge, where dashes of bright green echo the lawn outside.
The facilities at Horizon Périgord cater for guests of all ages. A 20m-swimming pool is perfect for laps as well as simply cooling down and splashing around, and those who prefer working out to winding down will enjoy the padel tennis court. There is also a table tennis table, a boules court, a badminton area and some bicycles.
The swimming pool has multiple safety features for peace of mind: not only is it hedged off and accessed by a safety gate, it is also fitted with two European standard-compliant immersed sensor alarms which is highly reassuring for families with young children.
And then there is there is the huge garden and grounds: Horizon Périgord is surrounded by 60 hectares of woodland, meadows and gardens, providing a natural playground just waiting to be explored – or simply to be admired from the terrace or the pool. Unhindered views of the countryside and total peace and quiet form an idyllic setting, and guests can also use the bicycles available to explore the area.
The Périgord Vert is made up of hills, dales, rivers and woods with plenty of prehistoric caves and castles to visit during your stay.
Services and amenities are provided in the nearby village which is two kilometres down the road.
Horizon Périgord can comfortably accommodate up to four families or six couples.

The Périgord Vert, or Green Périgord region gets its name from the expanses of countryside and beauty spots. Nature lovers and outdoorsy types will be in their element here. There are plenty of local hiking trails, a horse riding club (10 km), a treetop adventure park (15 km), canoeing centre (15 km) and outdoor treasure hunts that can be followed by downloading the Terra Aventura app. For something a little more dynamic, try go-karting (20 km away). There is a great outdoor circuit and a separate track for children aged 7 and over.
For something more cultural, Perigord has a wide range of historic sites and monuments that retrace the history of France.
Visit the town of Villars which has prehistoric caves with original paintings and Boschaud Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian abbey.
Don’t miss the pretty little village of Brantôme: it is known as the Venice of Perigord and has five mediaeval bridges and a magnificent Benedictine abbey – the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Brantôme – which was founded by Charlemagne in 769.
This being France, there are plenty of châteaux to visit too – we recommend the castles in Mareuil, Bourdeilles, Puygulhem and Jumilhac.
Further afield, if you drive 100km from the property you’ll come the castles of Beynac and Castelnaud la Chapelle, which played a significant role in the 100 Years War between France and England. Beynac castle, on the left bank of the Dordogne River was a French fortress, while Castelnaud la Chapelle castle on the opposite side was occupied by the English.
In the same area, history buffs can visit the village of Les Eyzies – the world capital of all things prehistoric – along with the mediaeval village of Domme and the town of Sarlat-la-Canéda. The Sarlat market is an institution, held on Wednesday mornings and all day Saturday. There’s no better place to pick up local produce and fresh supplies of the delicious things the region’s cuisine is famous for, such as foie gras, duck confit, and duck breast.
There’s no need to go all the way to Sarlat to enjoy a good local market, though, as there are many others closer to home. Visit the markets in Mareuil on Tuesdays, in Bourdeilles on Sundays, and in Brantôme on Fridays. The stalls will be filled with local Perigord strawberries in the summer, and walnuts, boletus mushrooms and truffles later in the year. The local cuisine is wholesome and rich, but can be savoured all year round. Dishes to try include cassoulet, blanquette de veau, salardaise potatoes, and goose casserole. And then of course, there’s the wine; the dishes of the Dordogne pair perfectly with the Bergerac wine produced here. For both food and wine, you can also buy directly from the producers – a great way to find out how the products are grown and made. The town of Périgueux is known for its art, history, and gastronomy and is a lovely place to visit during your stay.
