This 420 m² property in the Lot et Garonne area of south-west France is brimming with French elegance. It is a typical mid-19th century manor house with a rectangular façade and shuttered windows. The property is situated on a hill overlooking the valley and surrounded by small farms. Views of the splendid mature garden give way to the countryside beyond, promising total peace and privacy.
Entre Garonne et Dordogne can accommodate 12 guests, so is ideal for a big family holiday.
The spacious interior has been entirely refurbished and decorated in warm tones. Original features such as a period staircase and huge stone fireplace emphasize its ageless elegance. The fireplace dominates the living room, to be admired in summer and gathered around in cooler seasons.
The spacious open-plan kitchen and dining room has been redesigned to create an inviting and sociable space with high ceilings and tall windows giving it a bright and airy feel. The chic country kitchen is well equipped and will be a central feature during your stay, whether you’re rustling up a meal from fresh local produce garnered at the market, chatting with the family or keeping an eye on the children outside.
You have everything you need for easy organisation and hassle-free mealtimes inside or out.
Just outside the kitchen is a patio with a wisteria-covered pergola to shade you from the sun during your al fresco lunches.
Upstairs, there are four bedrooms on the first floor, all with an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The two largest bedrooms are upstairs again on the second floor, with lovely timber framework. They each have a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a vintage-style claw-footed bathtub. A small lounge with a TV completes the space on this level.
The house’s hillside location ensures a panoramic view of the surrounding valley and hills. You’ll love the uplifting liberty of admiring the beauty of south-west France every day, just as you imagined it.
The nearest village with amenities is just a few minutes’ drive from the villa.
The grounds outside are sprawling, spacious and designed for enjoying the sunshine.
Enjoy a freshly brewed coffee on the terrace or cool off in the 12-metre long heated salt water pool. The pool is fully enclosed by a transparent barrier which not only looks stylish and doesn’t obstruct the view, but also ensures peace of mind for families with children. The gate to the pool area is secure and there are steps at one end of the pool for easy entry. Sunbeds and parasols complete the picture of the pool deck.
The land around the property includes a one-hectare and two-hectare meadow, which belongs to the house. There is plenty of space to play or stroll around, and areas set up for table tennis, badminton and cricket. Children will love the swing while adults and teenagers will enjoy finding a quiet space to themselves. You are in the heart of nature with plenty to admire – don’t be surprised if a deer wanders into the grounds to say hello!
This fabulous rental villa is in the heart of south-west France. More precisely it’s in the Lot et Garonne département, which is part of the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The villa gets its name from its location and lies between the Gironde and Dordogne departments, at equal distance between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers – a picturesque rural paradise.
There is plenty to see, do and visit here, with a strong emphasis on nature and the great outdoors, food, wine and culture. The beaches on the coast are within driving distance too – there really is something for everyone. Entre Garonne et Dordogne makes a perfect base for discovering everything the region has to offer.
Whether you're more castles, canoeing or culture, you won’t need to go far to discover the gems this region has to offer.
For a start, there are the cute historic villages of Eymet, Monségur, Soumensac, Monteton and Duras.
Duras has a 12th century castle which played an important role in the Hundred Years’ War that took place between France and England in the Middle Ages.
The Lot-et-Garonne is a great place for treasure hunts and geocaching; a fun leisure activity for the whole family. Enjoy an outdoor active day out with the family high up or down on the water at the nearby treetop adventure park or by canoeing in the Dropt valley.
And last but by no means least, there are the wines – no holiday to France would be complete without discovering and enjoying the excellent local nectar! The wines here are labelled AOC Côtes de Duras and there is an array of wine estates near the villa, such as Domaine Ambard in Saint-Sernin.
Moving north, we come into the AOC Bergerac wine region. This is the Purple Périgord area, which gets its name from the colour of the vine leaves in autumn. More wine tourism is on the menu here: take your pick from walking in the vineyards, visiting wine cellars, tasting sessions and oenology courses. It’s also close to Monbazillac, which is reputed for its dessert wines.
The Dordogne is packed with prehistoric history, and counts no less than 1,001 castles and numerous gardens.
Visit Les Eyzies-sur-Tallac, the world capital of prehistory, the castles of Castelnaud la Chapelle and Beynac, which also clashed during the Hundred Years’ War, and the gardens of Marqueyssac.
Bergerac is the nearest town in the Dordogne to visit. It carries the title of an Art and History Town and is definitely worth a trip. With its half-timbered houses, small medieval streets, Renaissance buildings and a bustling market, you’ll be enamoured with the slow local lifestyle.
Let's now head west towards the Bordeaux region. The city itself is about 100 km away. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its beautiful architecture and its history. With 350 sights to see, there is a lot to do! The most popular places to visit are Place de la Bourse, Notre Dame church, the Palais Rohan, Saint-André cathedral and the Pey Berland tower. Bordeaux is a vibrant city, where art, culture and entertainment rank high on the agenda. There are numerous exhibition venues such as the Bassin des Lumières and its digital exhibitions, or the Espace Darwin, a former barracks transformed into an alternative venue with concerts, art exhibitions and edgy bars and eateries.
The Cité du Vin is an educational centre and museum entirely dedicated to wine that puts on fully immersive exhibitions. Bordeaux is the world capital of wine and the Bordeaux vineyards are the oldest and most prestigious in the world.
Some of the finest appellations here are Blaye and Bourg; Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Pauillac; Entre-Deux-Mers; Médoc; Grave and Sauternes. If you don’t know them already, you certainly will by the time you leave. Your property is only 40 km away from the most famous vineyards, estates and châteaux.
The villa Entre Garonne et Dordogne is your go-to holiday choice for wine lovers and connoisseurs!
Keep heading west and we come to the Atlantic Ocean. If you fancy catching some waves or simply filling up on fresh sea air, head out for a day on the coast. Arcachon Bay, the Dune du Pilat – Europe’s tallest sand dune – and Cap-Ferret can be reached in just under two hours.
This villa can comfortably accommodate two to three families with children or five to six couples.
