The large living room decorated in a pared-down, elegant style and the sociable dining room lend themselves to dining and unwinding with friends. Snuggle up by the fireplace in the small lounge for cosy night in with a book or good company. The chateau combines the charm of its historic character with the convenience of modern facilities, as demonstrated by the comfortable TV room stylishly offset by antique pieces.
The large, well-equipped kitchen is a great space for preparing delicious salads, barbecues and mouth-watering meals with the fresh produce brought back from the local markets which can then be eaten inside in the kitchen or dining room or outside in the courtyard, on the terrace overlooking the swimming pool, or in the shade of the stone veranda.
The five ground-floor bedrooms have kept their authentic charm. They are homely, elegant and spacious with high ceilings, pleasant furnishings and traditional exposed oak beams and terracotta tiling. This long-standing family home looks out onto the vast and scenic grounds outside. Three bedrooms have a super king-size bed, another has a king-size bed and the fifth is ideal for children, with three single beds and two cribs.

Both the grounds and the property are very well kept. It is a beautiful place to relax or play; laze around on a sun lounger by the heated swimming pool, enjoy a friendly game on the tennis court, or organise a ping pong or table football tournament. Pair a sweet Sauternes with a foie gras, a Saint-Emilion with a hearty steak, an Entre-Deux-Mers or a dry white Graves with anything from the sea, and a full-bodied Medoc with porcini mushrooms! Bordeaux is hailed as the largest and oldest wine producing region and has been perfecting the art of winemaking since antiquity, so wine tasting and vineyards will definitely play a part in your stay. The succulent regional dishes are a joy to discover and largely locally-sourced: lamb from Pauillac, eels, artichoke from Macau, asparagus from Blayais, beef from Bazas and prawns from Médoc. And for those who prefer sweet treats, there’s plenty to choose from too. Try the traditional cinnamon-flavoured cannelé cakes, Sarments du Médoc chocolate twiglets, fanchonnettes filled boiled sweets, chocolate-coated cherry guinettes, cherries coated in chocolate, or delicious French macarons and praline chocolates.
Saint Emilion is a small picturesque medieval village in Gironde, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique vineyard landscapes. This village is world famous for its prestigious red wines and the the magnificent wine châteaux that surround it. The village may be small but it is full of hidden treasures such as underground catacombs and caves, and it has a strong historical and religious heritage.
Castelmorond d'Albray is the smallest village in France, covering just 3.54 hectares. It is a delightful fortified village that could be plucked straight out of the Middle Ages. Perched on a rocky hilltop, Castelmorond d'Albray features 17th and 18th-century stone buildings with burnt orange roofs. Stroll along the flower-lined streets and admire the historic houses, the remains of the ramparts, the wash house and the fortified gate along the way.
Duras is famous for its vineyard and its elegant castle which stands proudly above the Dropt valley. Take in the scenery away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Make sure you visit the castle which will plunge you into the heart of the region’s tumultuous history. See the old brick icehouse, the archaeology museum, the prison, the moat, the room of secrets and the intriguing hall of ghosts of historical figures. The castle also gives you a great viewpoint over the valley.
Monsegur, reputed for being the only high-altitude bastide town in the region, Monsegur has retained its original medieval layout. The town square has been beautifully renovated and features a stunning glass and cast-iron hall, a typical Languedoc-style bastide church and a Gothic tower. Walk for a kilometre from the city walls to reach the towpath then enjoy a long, shaded walk along the Dropt river.
Bergerac is a lovely medieval town which bears the official title of an Art & History town. In the centre is Pelissière square flanked with pavement cafés and restaurants, the Récollets cloister and its wine house, the tobacco museum, and the old harbour where you can jump on a barge ride. A picturesque town that makes a lovely day out.
Les Jardins de Sardy are beautiful gardens to visit between Saint-Emilion and Bergerac. Take a guided tour to learn about the fragrant plants, the history of the gardens and the architecture of the buildings, then enjoy refreshments at the tea room with a shaded terrace and a panoramic view.
Bridoire castle is definitely worth a visit! Nestled in a lovely natural setting, it has been beautifully restored after being abandoned for years. Visits include old-fashioned games, promising lots of fun both for children and for adults.
Chateau des Vigiers golf course is 15 minutes from your holiday home and offers its own type of experience, with three international-class nine-hole courses to cater to both experienced golfers and beginners. Enjoy a round with a difference in a friendly atmosphere !
