The Vexin is a natural area spanning 97 towns north-east of Paris between the Val d'Oise, Yvelines and Oise departments. The park is home to protected flora and fauna and was the first national park in France to be awarded Art and History status. Vexin abounds with beauty spots and has a strong agricultural identity. A lengthy list of locally-grown produce – apples, fruit juices, vegetables, meat, cider, rapeseed and sunflower oil, beer, snails, honey and lentils – are used in the local cuisine. It’s perfect for walking, horse-riding or cycling, but also water sports such as canoeing and river cruises. For the ultimate experience, why not take to the skies in a hot-air balloon?!
Claude Monet’s artworks are famous the world over. Stay at Château Paris Campagne Luxe and visit the gardens that inspired the 19th-century impressionist and his masterpieces, including the Les Nymphéas water lilies. The village of Giverny is 60 km from the chateau and makes a wonderful day trip; admire the picture-perfect gardens, cross the Japanese bridge shown in his paintings and visit the artist’s studio.
There are many picturesque villages to visit close to your luxury holiday property. We recommend Auvers-sur-Oise (20km), where Vincent Van Gogh lived, and Mello (25km).
Make the most of your time in France with a visit to the capital. Paris is about 70 km from your rental chateau. Take in some French art and history at the Louvre, stroll along the Seine, and soak up the atmosphere on the Champs-Elysées before visiting the Arc de Triomphe or simply watching the world go by outside a Parisian café. For a breathtaking view of the city day or night, go right up to the top of the Eiffel Tower or take a bateau-mouche along the Seine to admire Notre-Dame de Paris, the Musée d'Orsay and other iconic buildings in the City of Light.
You’re just 30 km from the Château de Chantilly, renowned for its magnificent grounds. Set in 115 hectares of parkland, it features three magnificent gardens: French, English and Anglo-Chinese. They each have a distinct style inspired by artistic movements of the past and are as impressive as they are luxurious. It’s also home to the Musée Condé, France's second-largest museum of pre-1850 paintings, after the Louvre, with works by artists such as Géricault.
Further afield (70 km), is the illustrious Château de Versailles, the extravagant former residence of French kings and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This sumptuously decorated château is famous for its French-style gardens designed by André Le Nôtre and its Hall of Mirrors. It also contains 2,300 works of art. More of a palace than a castle, the Château de Versailles is the most visited chateau in France, with no fewer than 7.5 million visitors a year.
