Cala de Sueno is a beachfront holiday home on the Catalan coast. It is set among pine trees, which ensure privacy and a truly Mediterranean feel. The villa is a shady haven perched just above the sea.

This large, single-storey villa is south-facing and its tiled roof and warm-hued walls fit perfectly the natural landscape.

The style is modern rustic, with lots of terracotta and wood for a traditionally Spanish look and feel. The interior is spacious and bright. It’s easy to move between the large living rooms, the dining room and the library, which has a cosy fireplace and a piano. Mouldings and columns give a dash of Roman inspiration. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and leads out to the patio.

The villa has five bedrooms and bathrooms which are located at the end of a hallway with colourful carpets that add zest to the decor. There is a small living room with a television in this part of the house. In typical Spanish style, wooden bathroom furniture is used throughout. All the bedrooms have direct access to the garden.

The garden and the villa’s location are definitely some of the property’s best assets.

The living spaces extend onto a large covered terrace which guests will enjoy at any time of the day: kick back and relax in the outdoor seating area or share long and lazy meals around the table in the shade. The trees in the garden will also help to keep you cool from the searing summer sun. Carry on down the garden to the infinity pool, perched just above the sea and heated by the Costa Brava sun. Enjoy a relaxing swim here, or follow the path down to the beach for a dip in the Med.

The beaches and coves that dot the rugged coastline here are can be accessed on foot from the coastal path that runs alongside the garden – a luxury feature on the Costa Brava. Yet the house and garden enjoy privacy and are out of sight from anybody walking along the path. This area is a walker's paradise. The house is located right on the GR92 trail, which offers breathtaking views along all 500 kilometres of the Costa Bravaand mostly follows the coastline. You can also use the two kayaks available at the property and head straight out to sea as another great way to discover the coast.

There are some shops and restaurants within three kilometres, with a wider choice located within ten kilometres.

This holiday villa with a pool can comfortably accommodate two to three families or four couples.

Important: the pool at this villa does not have a security system as they are not required by Spanish law.

Renting a villa on the Costa Brava, things to see and do nearby :

Nearby attractions you won’t want to miss:

- Pals is a small village built on a hill around a fort that has retained its mediaeval appearance. It has one of the largest coastlines in the region and a huge sandy beach. It also has great natural resources including marshes, rice fields and dunes. Lots of food and cultural events are held throughout the year.

- The small villages of Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu are three well-known seaside resorts not far from your villa. They have kept all their historic charm and have become popular tourist destinations for their beautiful beaches and clear turquoise waters.

- History lovers can head to Peratallada, a mediaeval town packed with character. Visit the castle, meander through its narrow streets, and admire the climbing roses and old bridges. Then enjoy a well-earned rest at a cute little restaurant.

- Tossa de Mar is dubbed blue paradise. It is an ancient town with a magnificent view over the bay and the Cadiretes Massif mountains. You can’t miss the surprisingly well-preserved city walls which date back to the 12th century. But the real charm of Tossa de Mar is its peaceful hideaway coves such as Cala Futareda or Cala Giverola.

- Finally, hop into your rental car and drive 90 minutes to the eastern end of the Cap Creus peninsula to visit the beautiful village of Cadaqués. Painters and artists have been coming here from around the world since the time of Savador Dali. With its picturesque white houses and wide array of museums and art galleries, this small fishing town has made a name for itself, and it’s easy to see why.

If you’re looking for something off the beaten path, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the Costa Brava.

- The creeks and coves here make it a perfect spot for kayaking and snorkelling. There is plenty of underwater and marine life to enjoy and these activities are available to everyone.

- To find out more and discover all the region’s hidden gems, take a day trip with a guide. These often depart from Barcelona and will lift the lid on the secrets of the local area.

- You can also hire a boat on the Mediterranean, with a skipper if necessary to take you out to sea.

- Golf courses and water parks : there are plenty of both nearby, such as Mas Nou Golf Costa Brava and Aquadiver Costa Brava.

- Finally, Catalonia takes its food and wine very seriously and there are plenty of specialities on offer at the best restaurants in Begur or other towns. The province of Girona has some excellent products : anchovies from l'Escala, rice from Pals, potatoes from Olot, botifarra dolça (a sweet sausage), oil from Emporda, apples from Girona, xuixo (a kind of croissant filled with cream) and wine from Emporda.

Guest review about Cala de Sueno

  • Evelyne D. (Paris), 24/08/2022

Translated from French / August 2022 / Two week stay : "We have spent very good holidays at Cala de Sueno. The villa itself together with the housekeepers met all our requirements. The house is well orchestrated and spacious, allowing privacy (sleeping baby and teleworking !). The terrace is very pleasant and the view, stunning ! The housekeepers knows the villa very well and were very helpful."
